In that instant, a sun-drenched land might have appeared before him like a richly patterned carpet: a land where he had once wandered and come of age; a land through whose winding alleys he had strolled while dreaming of reaching this very school, and to which he now felt the desire to return\u2014to those same alleys, under that same light. We always feel we are not where we ought to be: at home, we long for the dark forest; in the forest, for the narrow path that leads back home.Yet in my view, such a preoccupation in Hessam\u2019s mind went far beyond a simple longing for home and family. He possessed an inquisitive intellect, along with the intensity and tenacity essential to artistic practice.
